## What PhotoMentor does

PhotoMentor analyzes photographs using computer vision and evaluates them against professional photography principles. It produces a score out of 10 and detailed written critique with visual bounding boxes highlighting specific areas of interest — strengths, distractions, compositional issues, and points of success.

The system automatically detects the genre of the photograph (portrait, landscape, wildlife, street, architecture, action/sport, abstract, ICM, macro, food, and 30+ others) and adjusts the critique criteria accordingly.

PhotoMentor is not a generic image classifier. It evaluates photographs the way an experienced editor or photography instructor would — with attention to intent, context, and craft.

## Frequently asked questions

**Can PhotoMentor evaluate photos where rules are intentionally broken?**
Yes. The system detects artistic intent — heavy grain, motion blur, unconventional framing — and evaluates whether the deviation serves the photograph rather than penalizing it by default. The critique adapts to the apparent intent of the image.

**Does PhotoMentor store or share uploaded photos?**
Photos are processed securely and stored only for the user's personal history. They are never shared with third parties or used for model training. Users can delete their history at any time.

**What genres are supported?**
All major photography genres are supported, including portrait, landscape, wildlife, street, architecture, macro, sports/action, abstract, ICM (intentional camera movement), food, travel, and more. The system auto-detects genre and applies relevant evaluation criteria.

**Is this a replacement for human critique?**
No. PhotoMentor excels at technical analysis, compositional evaluation, and consistent objective feedback available instantly. For subjective artistic decisions, it is best used alongside human feedback. Think of it as a knowledgeable second opinion.
