Protect the source before selecting

Ingest to a working location, verify the copy, and retain an independent backup before deleting or renaming anything. Keep the capture order and metadata intact. If your tool uploads files, read its privacy and retention terms before using client work.

Prefer tools that show groups, scores, flags, or reasons you can inspect. Record manual overrides and keep selections reversible. For high-stakes work, sample both accepts and rejects so you understand the system’s failure modes on your material.

Finish with a delivery audit

Check duplicates, narrative gaps, client priorities, sensitive frames, orientation balance, and output count. Then export ratings, filenames, or a report in the form your editing workflow can consume.

Keep a clear boundary between the source archive, review derivatives, working selects, and delivered files. That boundary makes later revisions and retention decisions much safer.
